The identities of five victims of a small plane crash that happened on Catalina Island on Tuesday night, October 8th, were made public by Los Angeles officials on Thursday, October 10. The identities and ages of the five individuals discovered dead at the scene were made public by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
1) Ali Reza Safai, male, 73 – Pilot In Command (PIC), Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), West Hills, California
2) Joeun Park, female, 37, CFI, Mulit-Engine, North Hills, California
3) Haris Ali, male, 33, Private Pilot, Fullerton, California, owner of the flight school at KSMO, “Proteus Air Services”
4) Gonzalo Lubel, male, 34, Student Pilot
5) Margaret Mary Fenner, female, 55, Student Pilot
The collision happened at approximately 8 p.m. Five to six passengers were on board the aircraft when it crashed approximately one mile west of the airport, according to authorities. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reports that they were notified of an accident involving a person via an emergency SOS notice.
Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, the aircraft is thought to have taken off from Santa Monica Municipal Airport and touched down at Catalina Airport, which is located roughly 30 miles off the coast of Los Angeles County. Around 8 p.m., the plane took off once more, but its destination was unknown. The emergency notice was then sent to the authorities.
