About Bruce Oake
Bruce Oake was the first-born son of sportscaster Scott Oake and nurse Anne Oake. A spirited and engaging child, Bruce faced challenges with ADHD but adapted well by high school, where he was popular, a dedicated basketball player, and a talented musician and boxer.
However, his impulsiveness led to drug use that escalated from marijuana to harder substances, eventually leading to opiates and heroin. In Bruce’s memory, his family established the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
This facility, inspired by the Fresh Start Recovery Centre in Calgary, provides addiction treatment and support for men seeking to reintegrate into society, honoring Bruce’s life by helping others overcome similar challenges.
