The name of the vehicle involved in the one-car roll on Tuesday morning has been made public by the North Dakota Highway Patrol. The NDHP released the following statement. Around 6:23 AM (central time) on October 29, 2024, a fatal one-vehicle rollover collision happened on Barnes County 22 close to 102nd Ave SE (about 3 miles west of Sanborn, ND). Barnes County 22 was being driven west by a Toyota 4-Runner.
The 4-Runner’s driver lost control of the vehicle as they veered onto the north shoulder of the road. The 4-Runner entered the south ditch and then returned to the paved road. The unrestrained driver was thrown as the 4-Runner rolled when it entered the south ditch. The collision caused fatal injuries to the driver, Matthew Berg, a 30-year-old man from Sanborn, North Dakota. The North Dakota Highway Patrol is still investigating this collision.
Sanborn is a city in Barnes County, North Dakota, United States. The population was 161 at the 2020 census. Sanborn was founded in 1879. A post office has been in operation at Sanborn since 1879. The city was named in honor of J. N. Sanborn, an early settler. The town was an early contender for the county seat of Barnes County, but lost this role to Valley City in 1880. Its population declined after better roads allowed nearby farmers to trade in Valley City instead.[
