Beloved mother and grandmother, Brenda Burke passed away tragically on October 18, 2024, in Enfield, Nova Scotia. She was 59 years old at the time of her death. She was announced dead by her daughter in a social media post that read “She is a special kind of person. She loved big and loved hard. Life does not feel real but I know after today you are still with us and with me. Eventually the tears and pain may stop, but I will truly never find closure.”
Brenda Burke cause of death
Because their mother’s husband was a former Mountie, the daughters of a lady who was murdered in Nova Scotia twelve days ago by her husband before he committed himself are accusing the RCMP of hiding the crime and demanding greater transparency around domestic abuse. Ashley Whitten, 38, and Tara Graham, 41, claim their mother, Brenda Tatlock-Burke, 59, had told them she was going to leave their stepfather, Mike Burke, two days prior to her murder.
The two had been in a poisonous and domineering relationship for almost 30 years. The women want their mother’s experience to be known publicly in order to increase awareness of domestic violence, and they are unhappy with the information—or lack thereof—that the RCMP has made public regarding the case. They claim that this has resulted in a false narrative about what happened.
The RCMP refused to confirm that a former officer was involved in Tatlock-Burke’s killing and did not immediately classify it as an instance of domestic violence. The RCMP only issued a statement verifying the investigation reveals that this case is an instance of intimate partner assault after CBC News informed them that the family was unhappy the police had not taken action.
How did it happened?
Within 24 hours after a woman was fatally stabbed in a park by a man she knew last week, the Ottawa Police Service declared the incident to be femicide. On the evening of October 18, the RCMP first released a news release stating that it had been asked to do a wellness check on two individuals at a residence in Enfield, New South Wales, at approximately 10:45 a.m. that morning.
According to the press statement, two adults who were known to one another and whose deaths were being investigated as suspicious were discovered dead inside the house. The RCMP released an update on October 22, four days later, stating that they had concluded the man had died from self-inflicted injuries and the woman had died from homicide.
Tatlock-Burke travelled to Alberta at the end of August to spend almost two months with her daughters. She informed them both that when she returned to Nova Scotia, she intended to divorce her husband. They assisted her in changing her name to Brenda Tatlock on social media. On October 16, Whitten took her to the airport. She died two days later.
