Myrtle Wacker, a 77-year-old resident of Louisville, Kentucky and a beloved mother has tragically passed away. Police have identified Myrtle as the woman who died in a crash on Bardstown Road that they believe was caused by drag racing. According to the Jefferson County coroner, Myrtle Wacker, 77, passed away at the scene of the Friday afternoon collision. Her death’s cause and method are still unknown.
Myrtle Wacker cause of death
Yusnier Bernal, 42, was taken into custody by Louisville Metro Police in relation to the collision and charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, homicide, and second-degree assault. He was drag racing with another car, according to LMPD, when the crash occurred just after 1 p.m. that day close to Bardstown Falls Road. Wacker was an occupant of an SUV when it was hit.
The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital after suffering severe injuries. Their status was not immediately known. Bernal suffered injuries in the collision as well. After receiving treatment at UofL Hospital, he was turned over to police custody. According to police, witnesses reported that just prior to the incident, Bernal’s white Mustang and another vehicle were travelling north on Bardstown Road.
Woman killed in deadly crash
According to the LMPD, the Mustang’s internal data recorder showed that it was travelling at 119 mph at the time of the collision. He has a $250,000 bond and is being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. On November 6 at 9 a.m., he is scheduled to appear in court.
Adam Steele was also identified as a co-defendant in the lawsuit. On Monday morning, he was also arraigned. Although Steele allegedly fled the scene, his automobile was seen on security cameras nearby, according to the police. His initial hearing is scheduled for November 11 at 9:00 a.m.
