Pittsfield Police Department Officer Michael Silver has sadly passed away. He died on Tuesday 22nd October 2024 leaving those who knew him heartbroken. He was confirmed dead saying “Our community lost an Officer. A dedicated and decorated officer. A great human, friend and family man. My husband lost a friend and co-worker.”
Authorities are investigating the discovery of a body near Whitney Field on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement. Westfield Police Captain Steve Dickinson confirmed the find, though details surrounding the circumstances remain scarce. According to the Westfield Regional Dispatch Center, police are advising the public to avoid the area as the investigation unfolds.
Further updates will be provided by the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, which is expected to lead the inquiry. Officer Silver, who began his career with the department in 2008 after graduating from the State Police Municipal Academy, was well-regarded within the community and his department. He served as a Senior Tactical Operator with the Berkshire County Special Response Team since 2016 and was a member of the Traffic Unit.
Officer Silver’s dedication to policing was evident throughout his career. He had a brief tenure with the Lee Police Department in 2015 and was known for his expertise as a certified MPTC Instructor in various fields. His exemplary service earned him numerous accolades, including letters of commendation, a Weapons Seizure Award, and a Drug Buster Award.
