Following a barricaded person incident in the Town of Huntsville, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huntsville Detachment is investigating a homicide. Following a report of a shooting at a home on Highview Drive, Huntsville OPP officers responded to a barricaded person incident just before 9:00 p.m. on October 25, 2024. For the sake of public safety, nearby roads were closed.
Along with the armed person, three other people were found dead. His age was revealed to be 52 years old. Public safety is not under danger. The OPP has informed the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate, about the officers’ encounter with the barricaded individual. The OPP will therefore be unable to offer any additional details.
Nonetheless, locals along Highview Drive should anticipate a significant police presence all weekend long. With support from the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Central Region Emergency Response Team, and Canine Unit, as well as the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, the Muskoka Crime Unit, led by the Criminal Investigation Branch, is still conducting the investigation.
